Tornado Watch Expires for Birmingham and North Alabama While Southern Counties Including Montgomery and Tuscaloosa Remain Under Watch Until 11 PM Wednesday

ALABAMA — The severe weather threat has significantly diminished across northern Alabama Wednesday evening, with Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Shelby County, Talladega, Anniston, Gadsden, Cullman, and surrounding areas now cleared of the tornado watch. Forecasters confirm the threat is done across these northern counties due to storm activity pushing south, and residents in those areas are advised there is no need to remain on high alert through the overnight hours.

Southern Counties Remain Under Tornado Watch Until 11 PM

Several counties across central and southern Alabama remain under the Tornado Watch until 11 p.m. Wednesday. Those counties include Sumter, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Chilton, Bibb, Coosa, Autauga, Elmore, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Lee, and Montgomery. Forecasters note that even across these remaining watch counties, much of the threat could clear by midnight or possibly sooner as conditions continue to improve ahead of the watch expiration.

Severe Weather Risk Nearly Zero Across Birmingham Corridor

While rumbling storms are expected to continue through the night in the vicinity of Birmingham, the risk of severe weather across the northern corridor is now considered nearly zero. The storm activity that pushed through earlier in the evening has moved sufficiently southward, effectively ending the organized severe threat across the northern and central Alabama zones that were most heavily impacted earlier in the day.

Residents in Southern Watch Counties Urged to Stay Alert Until Midnight

Residents across the remaining watch counties in central and southern Alabama, particularly those in Montgomery, Lee, Chambers, and Chilton, are urged to keep weather alerts active and remain aware through the 11 p.m. watch expiration. Although the overall threat is winding down, isolated storm activity cannot be completely ruled out until the watch officially expires.
