2-Year-Old Georgia Child in ICU After Stung by Yellow Jackets Over 150 Times

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Georgia community is rallying behind a Savannah family after a 2-year-old boy, Beckham Reed, was stung more than 150 times by yellow jackets, resulting in multi-organ failure and critical hospitalization.

Incident Happened While Playing on Electric Toy Vehicle

According to an online GoFundMe page, Beckham was riding his electric toy car when he accidentally disturbed a yellow jacket nest. The aggressive swarm attacked him head to toe, leaving his small body covered in painful stings. His father immediately pulled him from danger, also enduring multiple stings in the process.

Initial ER Visit Failed to Catch the Severity

Beckham was first taken to the emergency room, where doctors gave him medications and sent him home after confirming his breathing appeared stable. But less than 24 hours later, Beckham’s condition took a drastic turn for the worse.

Multiple Organ Failure Detected

When Beckham began turning yellow, his family rushed him to Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, where doctors quickly discovered that he was suffering from multi-organ failure. The yellow jacket venom had begun affecting Beckham’s heart, liver, and his only functioning kidney.

He was immediately transferred to the ICU in Savannah where a team at Memorial Health University Medical Center began aggressive treatment, including:

  • Dialysis

  • Ventilation

  • Life-saving medication

Doctors are still working to stabilize his condition and remove the toxins from his system.

Recent Health Update: Lung Fluid & Kidney Struggles

As of Tuesday’s update, Beckham is experiencing fluid buildup around his lungs due to impaired kidney function, according to his family. Despite the severity, Beckham’s loved ones shared a glimmer of hope — they were able to hear his voice and see him smile during a brief moment of relief.

Community Responds with Love and Donations

The story has struck a chord with thousands online. As of the latest update, Beckham’s fundraiser has collected over $85,000 of its $90,000 goal, helping his parents handle mounting medical costs during this terrifying time.

Locals and strangers alike have flooded social media with messages of hope and encouragement for Beckham and his family.

“He’s a tough little boy, and we know he’s fighting hard. Please keep him in your prayers,” the family wrote in the latest GoFundMe update.
