Woman Accused of Stealing Jewelry from Sweet Savannah Boutique and Selling It on Depop
THOMASVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA — A woman working at a Thomasville boutique is accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry and selling the stolen items through the popular online resale platform Depop.
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office reported that it was contacted by the owner of Sweet Savannah Boutique on South NC Highway 109 on August 7 after a suspected employee theft. The owner alerted authorities to a case of larceny after noticing multiple pieces of jewelry were missing.
Deputies said the total value of the stolen merchandise was approximately $3,000.
Boutique Employee Identified as Suspect
After initiating an investigation, detectives identified Jayden Beasley, an employee at the boutique, as the primary suspect. Authorities allege that Beasley not only took the items from her workplace but also posted them for resale on Depop, a popular app used for secondhand fashion and accessories.
Further digging by investigators reportedly uncovered that Beasley had also stolen merchandise from other local retail stores in the area. These additional items were also found listed for sale on her Depop account.
Arrest and Charges Filed
Beasley was arrested on August 16 and formally charged with two offenses:
- Felony obtaining property by false pretenses
- Misdemeanor possession of stolen property
She was later released on a written promise to appear in court. Her first court appearance is scheduled for September 4.
Community Impact and Next Steps
The Sweet Savannah Boutique incident has sparked concern among small business owners in the Thomasville area, highlighting the potential vulnerabilities of local retail operations that rely heavily on trust within small teams.
Davidson County officials have not confirmed whether other victims or stores are involved but say the investigation remains ongoing. No further details about Beasley’s online transactions or the recovery of the stolen jewelry have been released.
