Toddler Rescued from Submerged Car in Georgia DUI Incident
SPALDING COUNTY, GA — A three-year-old child is recovering in the hospital after being pulled from a submerged vehicle in Dundee Lake on Sunday, in what Georgia State Patrol officials say was a DUI-related crash.
Crash Leads to Near-Tragedy
Authorities report that the driver of an Acura was speeding westbound on Dundee Lake Road before entering the lake’s parking lot at high speed. The car then struck large boulders used as traffic barriers, vaulted into a grassy area, and ultimately plunged into Dundee Lake.
As the vehicle began sinking, officials say the driver climbed out and stood on top, leaving the toddler trapped inside, fully submerged in water.
First Responders Save Child
A deputy and a firefighter arrived quickly, diving in to recover the child. They performed life-saving measures until the child regained a pulse. The toddler was then airlifted to a hospital for further treatment.
The child’s current condition remains unknown.
DUI Arrest and Charges
The Georgia State Patrol determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The individual, whose identity has not yet been released, now faces multiple charges, including:
- DUI
- Serious injury by vehicle
- Endangering a child under 14 while DUI
- Reckless driving
- Child safety seat violations
The case is being investigated by the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team of the Georgia State Patrol.
Community Reaction
The disturbing details of the crash have prompted outrage from residents and safety advocates, who point to the extreme danger impaired driving poses — especially when children are involved.
Officials are reminding drivers to prioritize safety and never operate a vehicle while under the influence, as quick decisions can lead to life-threatening situations.
