St. Louis Weather Alert: Cold Front Brings Showers and 40s Temps North of I-70 Tonight
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A cold front sweeping across Missouri and Illinois will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms late Wednesday into early Thursday, with temperatures falling sharply behind it, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.
Sharp Drop in Temperatures
Forecasters say the front will push southward overnight, dropping temperatures into the mid-40s north of I-70 and into the upper 50s to the south. By Thursday, highs will only reach the low to mid-70s, marking a 20-degree drop from earlier this week.
Storms and Travel Hazards
While storms are expected to remain isolated, the system could still bring brief downpours and lightning, particularly across west-central Illinois and northeast Missouri.
Road conditions may worsen overnight as rain lingers into the morning commute. I-70 and nearby southern counties are expected to see slick spots and standing water, prompting officials to advise drivers to allow extra travel time and use caution.
Clearing Thursday Morning
Showers are forecast to taper off by mid-morning Thursday, giving way to drier and cooler air. Despite clearing skies, residents will continue to feel fall-like conditions well into the weekend as seasonal weather patterns return.
“Localized impacts are possible, so we’re urging residents to keep devices charged and monitor alerts for any late-night changes,” the NWS said in a statement.
