Springfield Forecast: Heavy Rain Likely Thursday in Southwest Missouri, Cooler Weekend Ahead
SPRINGFIELD, MO – Southwest Missouri is bracing for a major change in weather this week, with rain and cooler temperatures set to arrive by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield.
Storm System to Bring Widespread Rain
Showers could begin as early as Wednesday evening, with rain chances climbing to 60–90 percent overnight into Thursday. The heaviest rain is expected across the southwestern part of the state, bringing locally heavy downpours.
Daytime highs on Thursday will only reach the upper 60s to low 70s, well below seasonal averages.
Friday Commute Could Be Damp
By Friday, skies will remain mostly cloudy, and while temperatures will rebound slightly into the upper 70s, roads across Greene, Christian, and surrounding counties could stay slick.
NWS meteorologists advised motorists to slow down during the Thursday morning commute and remain cautious with lingering damp conditions.
Residents Advised to Keep Rain Gear Handy
The unsettled weather pattern is expected to last into the weekend, with partly sunny skies forecast by Saturday. Officials urged residents to plan ahead for travel delays and keep umbrellas nearby during peak rainfall.
A Springfield resident summed up the local mood:
“We’ve had sunny days for weeks, so a cool-down with some rain isn’t all bad — as long as it doesn’t ruin Friday night football.”
