Spartanburg Police Seek Shooter After 18-Year-Old Hit in the Face by Bullet at Camp Croft Courts

SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA — Police are searching for the suspect responsible for a Friday night shooting that left an 18-year-old man injured at a housing complex on the city’s south side.

Gunfire Erupts at Camp Croft Courts

According to the Spartanburg Police Department, officers responded around 7:45 p.m. to reports of shots fired at the Camp Croft Courts Housing Authority on Hanover Place.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old male who had been grazed in the face by a bullet. Officers provided first aid until EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Police confirmed his injuries were non-life-threatening.

Witnesses Describe Chaos

Witnesses told investigators the victim and another person were leaving their apartment in a vehicle when someone began shooting.

As the driver backed out of a parking space, multiple gunshots rang out. One bullet pierced the vehicle’s windshield, grazing the teen’s face.

The shooter fled before officers arrived, and investigators have not yet identified a suspect.

Police Call It a Reckless Act

Major Art Littlejohn of the Spartanburg Police Department condemned the shooting as an act of senseless violence that could have easily turned deadly.

“This was a reckless act that could have easily resulted in a tragedy,” Littlejohn said. “We urge anyone who may have seen or heard something to come forward. Your information could be critical in solving this case.”

Appeal for Public Tips

The incident remains under active investigation. Detectives are urging residents with any information, videos, or eyewitness accounts to contact the Spartanburg Police Department at 864-596-2065 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.

Authorities emphasized that anonymous tips are confidential and could help prevent future shootings in the community.

Friday’s shooting marks another incident in a recent string of gun-related crimes in the Upstate region, adding to growing concerns over youth-involved violence in public housing areas.

Police are increasing patrols near the Camp Croft Courts neighborhood while continuing interviews with potential witnesses.
