South Carolina Teaching Assistant Arrested for Using ‘Poop’ Spray at High School
FLORENCE, S.C. — A South Carolina high school teaching assistant is facing charges after deputies say he sprayed a foul-smelling chemical inside the school, sickening students and causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Alexander Lewis, 32, who was arrested Friday.
Spray Caused Illness and Damage
Investigators said that between August 25 and September 19, Lewis repeatedly used a spray he purchased online that was designed to mimic the odor of feces.
The smell triggered breathing issues for some students, prompting medical evaluations. The repeated disruptions also forced the district to spend more than $55,000 on inspections and repairs to the school’s air conditioning system.
Charges Filed Against Teaching Assistant
Lewis was booked into the Florence County Detention Center on charges of disturbing schools and malicious injury to property. Officials said more charges could follow as the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s office also confirmed the incidents caused ongoing disruptions to the school environment.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are still reviewing the full extent of the damage. District officials said they are cooperating with law enforcement to ensure student safety and prevent similar incidents.
