Remains of Terri Ackerman Found Seven Years After Disappearance in Lochbuie, Colorado

LOCHBUIE, COLORADO — After more than seven years of unanswered questions, authorities in Lochbuie have confirmed that human remains discovered earlier this fall belong to Terri Ackerman, a woman who went missing from her home in 2018.

According to police reports and local news outlets, Ackerman, 56, was last seen at her residence on Poplar Street on the morning of August 24, 2018. Her husband, Delbert “Dale” Ackerman, said she was asleep when he left for work at 5 a.m., but when he returned home that afternoon, she was gone — leaving behind her cellphone, wallet, car keys, and other personal items.

A Mysterious Disappearance in 2018

Family members told investigators that Terri had seemed fine the day before her disappearance but called her daughter Ambyr that evening crying and upset. She canceled plans to babysit her grandchildren the next day, saying she hadn’t been sleeping well.

Dale reported her missing that night around 8:30 p.m., after she failed to show up or respond to calls. Despite extensive searches using dogs and drones, no trace of Terri was ever found.

At the time, Dale Ackerman was considered a person of interest, but no charges were ever filed. He has since passed away.

Remains Found Near Ackerman’s Former Home

On September 10, 2025, police were called to the 100 block of Poplar Street, the same neighborhood where Terri had lived, after human remains were discovered. Following forensic examination, authorities confirmed the remains belonged to Terri Ackerman.

Investigators have not yet released a cause or manner of death, pending autopsy results. The discovery marks a tragic but long-awaited development for Ackerman’s family, who spent years searching for answers.

Family and Community Reaction

Ackerman’s disappearance had gained attention through missing persons databases such as The Charley Project and CrimeWatch USA, where family and volunteers kept her case active for years. The confirmation of her remains brings closure to a mystery that has haunted the Lochbuie community since 2018.

Authorities have not indicated any renewed criminal investigation but say the case remains open until a cause of death is officially determined.
