Pueblo Police Release Graphic Video of Patrol Car Striking and Killing Suspect
PUEBLO, Colo. — The Pueblo Police Department has released dash cam video showing the moments leading up to when a suspect was struck and killed by a patrol car earlier this summer.
Incident Began With Shoplifting Report
The case dates back to June 2025, when officers responded to an alleged shoplifting at Famous Footwear near I-25 and Dillon Drive.
The suspect, identified as Antonio Herrera, fled the scene on foot. Police said at least two officers pursued him in a patrol car while another chased him on foot.
Suspect Reportedly Armed
During the pursuit, one officer reported seeing Herrera with a firearm. Police said they gave multiple commands for him to drop the weapon, but he did not comply.
Moments later, Herrera was struck by a patrol car.
Aftermath and Death at the Scene
Police said rescue efforts were attempted, but Herrera died on scene.
The newly released video, which is graphic in nature, shows the final seconds of the chase and the collision.
Ongoing Public Debate
The release of the footage has sparked renewed debate in Pueblo over police use of force and whether striking a suspect with a vehicle was justified in this situation.
An earlier coroner’s report confirmed Herrera died from injuries sustained in the collision.
