One Killed, Nine Others Wounded in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago, Police Say
CHICAGO — One person was killed and nine others were injured in shootings across the city over the weekend, according to the Chicago Police Department. Victims ranged in age from 16 to 49.
Woman Killed in Logan Square
Around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 1700 block of North Kimball Avenue, where a 26-year-old woman was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Friday Night Violence
The weekend’s first reported shooting happened around 7:46 p.m. Friday, when a 40-year-old man arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wounds to his thigh and abdomen. He was listed in good condition.
Later that evening, four men between the ages of 35 and 49 were wounded in a mass shooting in the 6600 block of South Halsted Street. All four sustained leg wounds; one was listed in critical condition while the others were reported in good condition.
Additional Shootings Reported
- Around 3:58 a.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old man was shot in the knee and heel on the 4200 block of West Adams Street. Police said several suspects opened fire before fleeing. Four people of interest were detained and weapons were recovered.
- At 5:38 a.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old man was shot multiple times near the 2900 block of South Dearborn Street after being approached by someone from a vehicle. He was hospitalized in fair condition, later stabilized.
- At 5:30 a.m. Saturday, two teenage boys, ages 16 and 19, were shot in the leg near the 6300 block of South Vernon Avenue. Both self-transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
Police Investigation Ongoing
Detectives are continuing to investigate each of the shootings. As of Sunday, no arrests had been announced in the Logan Square homicide or the mass shooting on South Halsted.
