GRAY’S CREEK, North Carolina — A semi-truck filled with live turkeys collided with a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 near Fayetteville on Highway 87, sending both vehicles crashing off the road and leaving one driver in critical condition, according to CBS 17 and MotorBiscuit.

Pickup pulled in front of semi, police say

The crash occurred late in the evening near Sand Hill Road, where the driver of the pickup truck reportedly turned in front of the oncoming semi, leaving the trucker no time to stop. The resulting impact sent both vehicles nearly 100 yards from the point of collision, according to MotorBiscuit’s report.

Local police have not officially determined who was at fault, though witnesses confirmed that the pickup initiated the turn that led to the crash.

Driver injured, turkeys remain contained

The pickup driver was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, while the semi-truck driver suffered only minor injuries and was seen walking around the scene, even helping first responders.

The truck was hauling turkeys reportedly picked up from Prestage Farms, though authorities have not yet confirmed the destination. While early concerns arose about potential animal escape, photos from the crash show most turkeys remained contained, and no official injuries to the animals were confirmed by troopers.

Cleanup and investigation underway

Both vehicles were recovered from a grassy ditch, and tow trucks cleared the scene swiftly to restore traffic on Highway 87. As of now, no charges have been filed, and the incident remains under active investigation by state authorities.
