“No Expiration Date”: California Woman’s 1992 Burger King Coupon Shocks Employees, Internet Applauds

CALIFORNIA – A woman in California has gone viral after walking into her local Burger King with a 33-year-old coupon from her elementary school days and successfully redeeming it for a free hamburger.

The Coupon From 1992

Krisha Salim-Mendoza, known on TikTok as @the.reluctant.influencer, discovered the old coupon while sorting through childhood belongings. The certificate, dated 1992, was a “Student of the Month” award that entitled her to a free hamburger.

The surprising detail? The expiration line was blank. That prompted Salim-Mendoza to test her luck at Burger King decades later.

“So let’s see if they’ll give me a free burger, maybe cheese too, and not charge me extra for it,” she joked in her TikTok post.

Walking Into Burger King

Armed with the coupon and her old school ID, Salim-Mendoza visited a Burger King in Del Vista, California. At first, the cashier said yes, but other employees debated whether the decades-old voucher could be honored.

After some back and forth, the manager approved the deal. Salim-Mendoza left smiling, wearing a Burger King crown and holding her long-awaited hamburger.

“Look what I got,” she said on camera. “Got my hamburger from 1992.”

Internet Reacts

Her TikTok quickly went viral, racking up more than 111,000 likes. Many viewers praised Burger King for honoring the coupon, with one writing: “It’s like finding money that was forgotten.”

Salim-Mendoza gave a special shoutout to the store manager: “Shout out to Mily, the manager!!!! She’s a queen!!!”

While Burger King corporate hasn’t responded publicly, social media users applauded the chain for not being “petty” about the decades-old voucher.

Not the First Viral Coupon Story

This isn’t the first time a decades-old promotion has resurfaced. In another viral case, a TikTok user found a winning Starburst candy from the 1990s “Hunt for Gold” sweepstakes that had long expired. After the story went viral, Starburst surprised the family by awarding the $10,000 prize anyway.
