According to police reports, Dylan L. Haddix, 29, became involved in an argument with his 39-year-old partner, who was five months pregnant at the time. Doctors also warned that the woman could suffer long-term physical and mental impairments as a result of the trauma. She was intubated upon arrival and later transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for advanced treatment.

Instead of immediately calling 911, investigators say Haddix drove the injured woman to Walmart to purchase Tylenol after noticing her speech was slurred and suspecting a head injury.
On the drive back home, the woman reportedly told him she needed to go to the hospital. She then suffered a seizure inside the car, prompting Haddix to finally call emergency services.

After his arrest, Haddix allegedly told detectives, “I was in the helping mood and I like helping people,” and said he felt terrible about what happened. Police reports also state he asked officers to tell the victim that he loved her and would do anything for her.
