Louisville Forecast: Severe Storm Threat Looms Sunday Night

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Residents across central Kentucky are being urged to prepare for unsettled weather this weekend, as forecasters warn of a potential severe storm threat by Sunday night.

Saturday Stays Mostly Dry

The National Weather Service in Louisville reports that Saturday will bring partly sunny skies with highs between 88°F and 92°F. Only a few isolated showers are expected, keeping conditions largely favorable for outdoor plans.

Storms Strengthen Into Sunday Night

By Sunday afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop. Forecasters caution that some of these storms may become strong to severe by Sunday evening, producing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of central Kentucky — including Louisville, Bardstown, Elizabethtown, and Bowling Green — under a marginal severe weather risk for Sept. 21. While widespread severe storms are not expected, isolated strong cells remain possible.

Unsettled Pattern Into Next Week

Daily chances for showers and storms will linger into early next week, keeping the region under a wetter, more unsettled weather pattern.

The NWS advised:

“This is a good reminder to review your severe weather plan and have multiple ways to receive warnings.”

Kentucky residents planning outdoor activities Sunday evening are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely and be ready to adjust plans if storms intensify.
