Lexington County Man Charged With Vehicle Fraud After Using Stolen ID, SLED Says

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — A 56-year-old South Carolina man is facing charges after allegedly using someone else’s identity to apply for a car title, according to state investigators.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested Paul Geffory Lindsey and charged him with fraudulent application for a vehicle on June 27, after a months-long investigation initiated by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Suspect allegedly used victim’s ID

According to investigators, the incident occurred on March 25 at a property on Park Road in Lexington. Lindsey allegedly submitted a title application for a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, falsely using the name and driver’s license of an unsuspecting victim.

SLED confirmed that the victim had no knowledge of the application or the use of their personal information.

The fraudulent documents were flagged by DMV officials, who then requested a formal investigation by SLED.

Charges and legal process

Lindsey was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on June 27. He is scheduled to be prosecuted in Lexington County magistrate court, according to details shared by WYFF News 4.

The case remains active, and no bond or attorney details were released as of Monday.
