Lake Charles Weather Alert: Gale Warning and Wind Advisory in Effect Through Wednesday

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles has issued a Wind Advisory and Gale Warning for much of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas through 6 p.m. Wednesday, warning residents and mariners of strong winds, high seas, and elevated fire risks across the region.

Strong Winds Across Land and Sea

Forecasters say northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, will continue through Wednesday, making travel difficult and posing hazards to unsecured outdoor objects such as patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles are advised to use extra caution on open highways and bridges.

Over coastal waters, conditions are expected to be even more dangerous. A Gale Warning is in effect for offshore areas extending up to 60 nautical miles, where winds could reach 35 to 40 knots and seas may build between 7 and 11 feet, creating hazardous conditions for small craft.

“Mariners should avoid hazardous waters and remain in port until conditions improve,” the NWS said in its advisory. “Strong winds and high seas will make navigation extremely dangerous.”

Increased Fire Risk and Cooler Temperatures

The dry air and gusty winds are also contributing to an elevated fire danger across inland areas. Forecasters urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, as fires could spread rapidly in these conditions.

Temperatures will drop sharply overnight, with lows falling into the mid-40s inland and slightly warmer along the coast. Cooler, drier air is expected to settle over the region as the storm system moves eastward.

Forecast: Clearing Skies Ahead

The NWS expects conditions to gradually improve by Thursday, with calmer winds, clearer skies, and mild sunshine returning for the rest of the week.

By the weekend, forecasters predict pleasant fall weather across the Lake Charles area, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

Residents are advised to stay informed through official weather updates and avoid coastal travel until the Gale Warning expires.
