Kershaw County Man Shot While Sleeping; 19-Year-Old Suspect Charged
CASSATT, S.C. — A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after deputies say a Cassatt resident was shot while asleep inside a home Thursday afternoon.
Victim Found With Head Wound
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office reported the shooting happened around 5:20 p.m. on Holland Road. Deputies responding to the scene found the victim with what officials described as a graze wound to the back of the head.
According to investigators, the victim said he was asleep on the couch when a gun was fired, though he was unable to identify the shooter.
A nearby homeowner received a doorbell camera alert and discovered the injured man outside, bleeding from his head. The homeowner called 911 after the victim asked to be taken to a hospital.
Charges Filed Against Suspect
Following the investigation, deputies arrested Edward Lucas Funderburk, 19, of Cassatt, charging him with:
- Attempted murder
- First-degree burglary
- Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
Funderburk was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
Victim Expected to Recover
Authorities confirmed the victim is expected to make a full recovery. No further details have been released regarding a possible motive.
The case remains under investigation, with deputies continuing to gather evidence and statements related to the shooting.
