Indiana Man Sentenced to 14 Years After Kidnapping Girlfriend and Children During Violent Road Rampage

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – An Indiana man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, with two years suspended, after admitting to a violent kidnapping spree that endangered his girlfriend, her two children, and multiple bystanders.

Long List of Charges

Dhantori Honorable, 32, received his sentence in Marion County on September 10 after pleading guilty in July to a range of felony charges. These included:

  • Kidnapping with a deadly weapon
  • Kidnapping a child under 14
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a violent felon
  • Domestic battery in front of a child
  • Domestic battery of a child
  • Auto theft
  • Criminal recklessness
  • Resisting law enforcement

Spree Begins in Elkhart

The chaos began on January 17, 2024, when Honorable allegedly shot his 61-year-old grandfather in Elkhart. He is still awaiting trial for that shooting and other northern Indiana crimes.

Shortly afterward, he forced his girlfriend and her two children—a 7-year-old girl and a 7-month-old baby—into a car at gunpoint. During the drive to Indianapolis, Honorable allegedly hit the woman repeatedly and fired his gun at least 30 times while in transit.

Gas Station Terror

In Indianapolis, Honorable reportedly forced his girlfriend to enter a gas station to buy alcohol and cigarillos, even instructing her to “sell herself” for money.

When she returned, witnesses say he tried to throw the baby from its car seat and attempted to drag the 7-year-old through the rear passenger window. When he failed, he pointed a gun at her head and fired, narrowly missing.

He then ordered the woman to abandon her sobbing daughter in the gas station parking lot. She briefly drove away under his orders but later returned to retrieve the child.

Stolen Van and More Violence

The ordeal continued when Honorable forced his girlfriend to drive to a Chase bank. She managed to speed away to safety, leaving him behind.

Enraged, Honorable went to the home of an ex-girlfriend, where he fired 11 shots into her door, though no one was hurt.

Later, police reunited the 7-year-old girl with her mother at the gas station. While officers were speaking with them, Honorable arrived in a stolen van and reportedly told police: “I’ll die before I tell you who I am.”

Arrest and Restraint

Honorable violently resisted arrest, kicking and struggling against officers before he was finally subdued with arm and leg restraints and secured inside a police vehicle.

The case concluded with Wednesday’s sentencing, bringing closure to a year-long ordeal marked by domestic violence, child endangerment, and reckless firearm use.

This case underscores the severe danger posed by armed offenders and highlights the courage of victims who survive such ordeals. Authorities continue to urge residents to report threats promptly to prevent similar tragedies.
