Funeral for Monroe Father and Daughter Slain in Triple Murder Set for Saturday at Civic Center
MONROE, LOUISIANA — A community still reeling from tragedy will come together this weekend to honor the lives of 25-year-old Jaborris Simpson and his 2-year-old daughter, Jhersi Rhyiana Simpson, two of the three victims killed in a triple homicide last week.
According to officials, the funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Monroe Civic Center, with arrangements handled by McFarland Funeral Home. Police say two suspects have been arrested, and the investigation into the killings remains ongoing.
A Father Remembered for His Love, Faith, and Family
Born November 19, 1999, in Monroe, Jaborris Ryhim Deshaun Simpson was known to friends and family as “OJAY.” A Richwood High School graduate, Class of 2018, he was a proud athlete who played football throughout his youth and high school years, and he later relocated to Houston, Texas, where he worked for the Harris County Toll Road Authority.
Those close to him describe him as devoted, respectful, and family-oriented, a young man who lived to protect and uplift those he loved. He was a member of New Covenant Christian Center Church under Overseer Moore and Pastor Orlando Freemont, where he participated in the youth choir and stomp team.
A lifelong Denver Broncos fan, Simpson admired quarterback Peyton Manning and carried the same drive and determination into every part of his life.
Family members say Jaborris’s world revolved around his daughter, Jhersi, whom he shared with Tab’Brea Blackson (Simpson). Their bond, loved ones say, was “inseparable.”
“Jaborris was a protector by all means — loyal, kind, and full of love,” relatives shared in his obituary. “He fiercely loved and protected his daughter, and that is how he will always be remembered.”
A Two-Year-Old’s Bright Light Remembered
Born March 25, 2023, in Arlington, Texas, Jhersi Rhyiana Simpson brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. Her family remembers her as playful, spirited, and full of love — a little girl who loved to sing, dance, and share affection with those around her.
Jhersi’s favorite characters were Minnie Mouse and Bluey, and she was known for turning any room into her stage. She enjoyed cheese pizza, French fries, and playing with makeup, mimicking the older girls she adored.
“She brought pure joy to every soul she touched,” her family wrote. “Though her time was short, her impact was everlasting. She taught us the true meaning of love, joy, and innocence.”
Jhersi is survived by her mother, Tab’Brea Blackson of Monroe, and a large extended family across Louisiana and Texas, all of whom remember her as their sunshine and joy.
Community Mourns Amid Ongoing Investigation
Authorities say two individuals have been arrested in connection with the triple murder that claimed the lives of Jaborris, Jhersi, and one other victim. Police have not released additional details as the case remains under investigation.
Friends and neighbors in Monroe have described the family as close-knit and deeply loved, and the upcoming service is expected to draw a large turnout from across the community.
A memorial fund and floral tributes are being coordinated through McFarland Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.
Residents wishing to pay their respects may attend the public service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe Civic Center.
