Forest Acres Shooting at The Landing Apartments Leaves Man Injured, Suspect on the Run
FOREST ACRES, SOUTH CAROLINA – A shooting at The Landing Apartments on Thursday evening left one man injured and prompted a swift response from police, along with safety measures for nearby community events.
Man Injured in Apartment Shooting
The Forest Acres Police Department reported that a call came in around 7:26 p.m. about shots fired at the complex, which is located off Covenant Road. Officers arrived within three minutes and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police confirmed his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Chaotic Scene and Search for Suspect
When officers arrived, they described the situation as chaotic, with conflicting witness reports suggesting the suspect may have fled in multiple directions. This led investigators to expand the search area, with assistance from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department K9 unit.
Community Events Suspended for Safety
As the search moved closer to Trenholm Park, Forest Acres Police Chief Don Robinson made the decision to end ongoing baseball and softball games as a precaution. Roughly 150 people were evacuated safely after officers created a security buffer between the park and nearby Ravenwood Apartments, which were part of the search zone.
Investigation and Appeal for Information
Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and possibly a crime of opportunity, but the suspect remains at large.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Forest Acres Police Department at (803) 782-9444 or provide an anonymous tip through CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
