Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Don Holt Bridge in North Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A driver was killed Saturday morning in a wrong-way crash on the Don Holt Bridge, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Vehicle Traveling Wrong Way on I-526
Police said officers were first notified of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on I-526 eastbound. Just minutes later, a call came in reporting a collision with injuries on the bridge.
Driver Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Authorities confirmed the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
Traffic Unit Investigating
The North Charleston Police Department’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation to determine how and why the vehicle entered the interstate traveling in the wrong direction.
Officials did not report any additional injuries or vehicles involved in the collision.
