Detroit Firefighters Rescue Man Trapped Between Two Cars After Rollover Crash Near Lodge Freeway

DETROIT — A man was hospitalized Thursday night after being trapped between two vehicles for nearly an hour following a rollover crash near the Lodge Freeway and Wyoming Avenue exit, according to state police and fire officials.

The crash occurred late Thursday when one vehicle reportedly rolled over and came to rest on top of another car. Responding Michigan State Police troopers found the driver pinned inside the overturned vehicle, unable to move or escape due to the weight of the impact.

Emergency Crews Work to Free the Driver

Authorities said Detroit firefighters arrived shortly after and began a careful rescue operation to free the man from the wreckage. Crews used specialized hydraulic tools to stabilize the vehicles and cut through the mangled frame of the overturned car.

After nearly an hour of intense work, rescuers successfully extricated the trapped driver. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that he is expected to survive his injuries.

Crash Investigation Underway

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity or said whether other vehicles were directly involved in the initial impact.

Traffic along the Lodge Freeway exit ramp was temporarily shut down Thursday night as emergency teams cleared the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation.

Images from the scene show multiple emergency vehicles surrounding the crash site, with flashing lights visible along the curved exit ramp.

Police Urge Drivers to Stay Cautious

Officials are reminding motorists to drive cautiously, particularly at night and around freeway exits where visibility is reduced and sharp turns can increase rollover risks.

“Situations like this can happen in seconds,” one officer said at the scene. “Thankfully, our teams worked quickly enough to save a life tonight.”

The man’s condition was described as serious but stable as of Friday morning. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
