Dashcam Captures Terrifying Near-Collision Between Driver and U.S. Air Force Plane in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA — A driver in Oklahoma City narrowly escaped a disaster after a U.S. Air Force training plane made an emergency landing on a roadway, missing the vehicle by only seconds. The dramatic near-collision was captured on dashcam video, which has since gone viral on social media.
According to CNN and KOCO-TV, the aircraft was on a training mission when it experienced an apparent malfunction and attempted to crash-land near a roadway.
The footage shows the vehicle traveling along a two-lane road when the plane suddenly appears ahead, descending fast and clipping two power poles before skidding across the grass.
Plane Strikes Power Poles, Sparks Fire
Officials with the Oklahoma City Fire Department confirmed that the aircraft hit two power poles, causing a brief grass fire that emergency crews quickly extinguished. The wreckage came to rest in a nearby field, where both crew members managed to exit the plane safely.
“The fire was contained quickly and no civilians were injured,” fire officials said in a statement.
Pilot Was on Training Mission
A spokesperson for the U.S. Air Force told CNN affiliate KOCO that the plane had been part of a routine training mission when the emergency occurred. The aircraft, identified as a military trainer affiliated with the U.S. Air Force, was returning to base when it suffered a reported mechanical failure.
The National Guard and federal aviation officials are now investigating what caused the emergency landing.
Dashcam Video Shows How Close Disaster Came
The dashcam footage — now viewed millions of times — shows how close the driver came to being struck by the descending aircraft. The vehicle passes through the intersection just seconds before the plane makes impact.

“One more second and that could’ve been catastrophic,” one viewer wrote.
No Serious Injuries Reported
Both the pilot and co-pilot were evaluated at the scene and found to be in stable condition. No civilians were hurt during the incident.
Authorities have not released the pilots’ identities, but the Oklahoma National Guard confirmed that safety protocols worked exactly as intended, allowing the crew to safely exit the plane after impact.
Investigation Underway
The Air Force and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are coordinating an investigation into the mechanical failure that led to the crash-landing. Officials are also reviewing whether weather conditions or maintenance issues played a role.
The plane’s wreckage has since been removed from the scene as part of the ongoing analysis.
