Cooler Labor Day Weather in South Carolina to Shift Toward Warmer Weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina residents are experiencing a cooler-than-normal Labor Day, but forecasters say the relief will be short-lived as warmer temperatures are set to return later this week.

Breezy but Comfortable Holiday

Labor Day began with morning lows in the low 60s and climbed into the low 80s by afternoon, offering mild conditions for outdoor plans. Winds reached 20–22 mph gusts through Monday but were expected to ease by evening.

Gradual Warming Trend Ahead

A high-pressure system building from the north is keeping conditions dry through Tuesday. Temperatures will stay in the low 80s through midweek, but by Saturday, the mercury could rise to around 90 degrees, near the seasonal normal of 89.

Scattered midweek storms are possible Wednesday and Thursday as a weak disturbance passes, though most of the state should remain dry.

Watching the Tropics

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave in the far eastern Atlantic. The system currently shows disorganized thunderstorms but could develop into a tropical depression late this week or into the weekend. It is moving west-northwest at about 15 mph.

South Carolina’s Labor Day may have delivered a pleasant break from the summer heat, but forecasters caution residents to prepare for rising temperatures and keep an eye on the tropics.
