CANTON, MICHIGAN — The Canton Police Department has issued an urgent warning to parents after a sewing needle was found lodged inside a piece of Halloween candy collected by a child while trick-or-treating near Saltz and Sheldon Road.

Authorities said the sharp object was discovered partially protruding from a Twix candy bar, prompting an immediate police investigation. Photos released by Canton Police show the metal needle alongside the unwrapped candy, highlighting the potential danger.

Police Urge Parents to Inspect Candy

Officials are now urging all parents to thoroughly inspect their children’s Halloween candy before allowing them to eat any of it.

“Anyone who finds an object or foreign item inside candy should contact the Canton Police immediately,” the department said in a statement. Parents can reach police at 734-394-5400 so officers can collect and investigate any suspicious candy.

Authorities also reminded the public that any candy appearing to be tampered with or altered should not be consumed and should instead be discarded immediately.

Believed to Be an Isolated Incident

At this time, police believe the discovery to be an isolated incident, though they are continuing to investigate and have asked the community to remain vigilant out of an abundance of caution.

“Even one report like this is too many,” a Canton Police spokesperson said. “We want to ensure no other families encounter this kind of danger.”

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
