‘Alive and Moving’: New Sightings Renew Loch Ness Monster Mystery in 2025

INVERNESS, Scotland — The enduring mystery of the Loch Ness Monster has once again resurfaced after two separate sightings on the same day in late August, with one witness describing the creature as “alive and moving.” The reports mark the eighth and ninth Nessie sightings recorded in 2025 .

Longtime Resident Captures Strange Video

The first sighting was filed with the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register by a longtime local who has lived near the loch for more than 30 years. On August 29 at 9:15 a.m., the resident spotted an object moving under the water near Lochend and managed to capture a two-minute video.

While only a still frame from the footage has been released, it was convincing enough for the Register to list it as the third official Nessie sighting of 2025 .

The witness described the encounter as unlike anything they had ever seen in decades living near the loch.

Webcam Watcher Adds Another Sighting Hours Later

That same evening, prolific Nessie spotter Eoin O’Faodhagain submitted his own report after noticing unusual activity at 7:49 p.m. through the Visit Inverness Loch Ness Clansman webcam. Unlike the morning report, O’Faodhagain’s sighting was deemed “unofficial,” since it came via webcam and not direct observation.

However, O’Faodhagain shared what he saw on his YouTube channel, describing a creature-like object that produced multiple humps in the water .

Witness Describes Creature “Alive and Moving”

In an interview with the Inverness Courier, O’Faodhagain explained:

“I first noticed a large disturbance in the water on the right-hand side of the screen, more than halfway across the loch. Then two humps partially emerged from the water, then submerged, then a large single hump appeared. When the webcam rotated back, two humps reappeared higher out of the water than earlier, showing that this object is alive and moving.”

He added that no boats were visible in the area at the time, eliminating the possibility of wakes or human interference.

At Least Nine Sightings in 2025

These reports bring the total to at least nine Loch Ness Monster sightings this year, continuing the trend of steady reports from locals, tourists, and webcam watchers alike. While skeptics dismiss many of the claims as misidentified logs, waves, or even otters, enthusiasts argue that the consistency of sightings over decades suggests something unusual may inhabit the loch .

Modern Debate: What Counts as “Official”?

Once, the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register was considered the final authority on authentic reports. Today, however, the rise of webcams and social media platforms has blurred the lines between “official” and “unofficial” sightings. While traditionalists insist on firsthand accounts, online evidence like O’Faodhagain’s videos reach far larger audiences, fueling global intrigue .

Myth or Mystery That Won’t Die

Whether a log, wave, or elusive cryptid, Nessie continues to capture imaginations worldwide. Each new sighting renews Scotland’s most famous mystery, keeping tourism high and the legend alive.

For locals and lifelong watchers, though, it’s not just folklore — it’s an ongoing story. As one witness put it, “I had never seen anything like it before.”
