Abandoned at Las Vegas Airport, 2-Year-Old Mini Goldendoodle ‘Jet Blue’ Adopted by Officer Who Helped Rescue Him
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — What began as a troubling case of alleged animal abandonment at Harry Reid International Airport has ended with a heartwarming twist, as a 2-year-old mini goldendoodle named Jet Blue has found a permanent home with the police officer who helped rescue him.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the dog, who was found tied to a metal carry-on baggage sizer near the JetBlue airline ticket counter earlier this month, has now been adopted by LVMPD Officer Skeeter Black.
Dog Left Behind After Boarding Denied
According to police, Jet Blue was discovered just after 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 2, tied up and left alone inside the airport terminal.
Authorities said a 26-year-old woman, identified in court records as Germiran Bryson, was denied boarding after she failed to complete required documentation to travel with the dog as a service animal. Police allege that after being refused a boarding pass, Bryson left the dog behind and walked toward the gate.
Body camera footage reportedly shows Bryson telling officers she was attempting to “rebook my flight.” She also allegedly stated that the dog had a tracking device, implying it would be acceptable to leave him there and retrieve him later.
Arrest and Charges Filed
Officers said they did not consider leaving the dog tied up in the airport acceptable. According to police reports, Bryson became hostile and resisted attempts to detain her.
She was arrested and now faces several misdemeanor charges, including animal abandonment, resisting a public officer, providing false statements to obstruct a public officer, and animal abuse. Court records indicate her next hearing is scheduled for March 31.
Officials did not list a defense attorney for Bryson at the time of reporting.
From Airport Terminal to Forever Home
While the legal case proceeds, Jet Blue’s future has taken a far brighter turn.
On Feb. 21, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared a social media announcement confirming that Officer Skeeter Black — one of the officers involved in the rescue — officially adopted the dog.
“Bon voyage, Jet Blue and welcome to a new life where you’ll be loved beyond words by Officer Black and his family,” the department wrote.
A New Beginning
What could have been a tragic ending instead became a story of compassion and second chances. Instead of remaining a symbol of abandonment, Jet Blue now has a stable home with a family connected to the very department that ensured his safety.
Animal advocates often stress the seriousness of pet abandonment, particularly in busy public areas. In this case, officers intervened quickly, ensuring the dog was cared for and ultimately placed in a permanent home.
