Authorities Identify Body of 18-Year-Old Woman Found Floating in Florida Canal
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities have identified the body of an 18-year-old woman discovered floating in a canal following a motorcycle crash that left three others hospitalized.
Victim Identified as Angelina Plasencia
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that the body recovered from a canal near NW 72 Avenue and NW 58 Street was that of Angelina Plasencia. Deputies said she had been ejected from a motorcycle during a late-night crash that occurred Sunday, Sept. 14.
Plasencia was initially reported missing that night. Deputies and detectives searched the area but could not find her until the next morning when a body was spotted in the canal. Divers later confirmed it was Plasencia.
Series of Crashes Led to Fatal Outcome
Investigators revealed a chain of events that began with a vehicle crash at NW 74 Avenue and NW 58 Street. Some passengers fled that scene, later abandoning the vehicle after a second crash on the SR 826 ramp. They were then picked up by a friend on a motorcycle.
Shortly afterward, the motorcycle crashed near NW 72 Avenue and NW 58 Street, ejecting all four riders. Three were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while Plasencia was reported missing until her body was recovered the next day.
Investigation Ongoing
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed that two women and one man were hospitalized. Their names have not been released. Traffic homicide detectives from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the crashes and the circumstances leading to Plasencia’s death.
