COLUMBIA, S.C. — Motorists across the Columbia area are being urged to use caution as gusty winds sweep through the region, creating hazardous conditions on major roadways including I-26, I-20, and I-77.
Winds Up to 23 MPH Overnight
The National Weather Service reports that northeast winds could reach up to 23 mph overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Skies will stay partly cloudy with temperatures dipping into the low 60s before clearing later in the day.
By Tuesday afternoon, conditions are expected to turn mostly sunny with highs near 81 degrees, bringing the start of a warm and dry stretch of weather.
Travel Hazards on Major Highways
Officials warn that crosswinds may be especially noticeable on elevated stretches of I-26, I-20, and I-77, with drivers of high-profile vehicles at greater risk.
Residents are also advised to secure outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash bins, or yard decorations that could be blown around by sudden gusts.
Warm, Dry Weather Ahead
After the winds subside, Columbia will transition to a late-summer weather pattern with sunny afternoons and cooler evenings. Highs are expected to climb into the mid-to-upper 80s by Thursday and Friday, while overnight lows settle in the lower 60s.
The five-day outlook calls for clear skies through Saturday, providing an ideal setup for outdoor activities.
