Columbia Airport Records 94°F as Weekend Rain Chances Increase

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia experienced its hottest day of the week Friday, as temperatures at Columbia Metropolitan Airport climbed to 94°F, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday Marks First 90° Day This Week

Meteorologists said a weak surface trough moved through South Carolina Friday while a cold front pushed in from the Mississippi Valley. The setup brought only isolated showers but helped drive temperatures higher.

This was the first time this week temperatures exceeded 90 degrees, breaking a stretch of cooler early September days.

Saturday Forecast: Hot With Clouds Building

Saturday morning will start near 70°F, warmer than earlier in the week when morning lows dipped into the lower 60s.

By midday, forecasters expect increasing clouds and a partly sunny afternoon with highs reaching about 93°F. While most areas will stay dry, there is a slight chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm.

Sunday: Cooler With Storm Chances

Sunday brings a small break from the heat as highs drop to around 86°F. Another cold front will move closer, bringing scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, especially in areas to the west and south of Columbia.

Early Next Week: Cooling Trend

The start of the week will feel more like early fall. Highs on Monday and Tuesday are forecast to remain in the low 80s, with lingering clouds but little to no rain expected.

Columbia’s forecast underscores how quickly weather patterns shift in early September, with summer heat giving way to fall fronts and storm chances.
