Lexington County assault suspect arrested in Georgia after crossing state lines

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A man accused of a violent assault in the Midlands has been arrested in Georgia after fleeing across state lines, authorities confirmed.

Arrest in Carroll County, Georgia

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 22-year-old Edgar Ivian Duarte Loa, who was taken into custody Monday night in Carroll County, Georgia. He was booked into the county jail following his arrest, though specific charges are pending his return to South Carolina.

Details of the Assault

Deputies responded to Pacific Avenue in Chapin just after 5:30 a.m. on Monday, August 25. According to the incident report, a bystander called for help after the victim approached them, asking to contact 911.

The victim told deputies that Loa allegedly attacked them “suddenly and without provocation,” repeatedly punching, biting, and strangling them while also pressing his knee into their neck. The victim reported losing consciousness three times during the attack.

Injuries and Video Evidence

Deputies observed significant swelling to the victim’s lips, making it difficult for them to speak, along with multiple bite marks on their hands. A homeowner later provided security footage showing Loa dragging the victim upstairs, striking them in the face, choking them, and covering their face with a blanket.

The video also reportedly showed the victim attempting to escape, only to be blocked by Loa, who dragged them back inside. Authorities said Loa was seen holding a blue wrench, which he allegedly used to strike the victim.

Escape and Arrest

Investigators reported that Loa fled the scene in a white Honda Accord, abandoning his truck in the driveway after colliding with it. He allegedly took the victim’s wallet and phone before leaving.

Officials have not released details on what led to Loa’s capture in Georgia, and extradition proceedings are still pending.

Ongoing Investigation

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said it cannot comment on formal charges until Loa is returned to South Carolina. The investigation remains active as officials coordinate with Georgia authorities.
