Virginia Forecast: Overnight Chill Drops Temps Into the 50s Across Blue Ridge and Valleys
BLACKSBURG, VA – Virginia is in for a cool night as a strong high-pressure system pushes drier air into the state, dropping overnight temperatures into the mid-50s to mid-60s by early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg.
Blue Ridge and Valley Communities to See Coldest Lows
Forecasters said areas across the Blue Ridge, New River, and Roanoke Valleys could dip into the low 50s, while slightly warmer conditions are expected along the Southside and Piedmont regions.
An NWS meteorologist explained the shift:
“The arrival of this high-pressure system is producing cooler, drier conditions. Some valleys could wake up to temperatures nearly ten degrees below normal.”
Residents Advised to Prepare for Brisk Morning
Communities such as Wytheville, Roanoke, and Martinsville are urged to prepare for a chilly start to Tuesday, especially in low-lying areas where cold air tends to settle.
The NWS recommended:
“Residents may want to grab a light jacket or long sleeves if heading out early, and take precautions for temperature-sensitive crops and outdoor pets.”
Cool Pattern to Hold Through Midweek
The cooler, dry air mass is expected to linger into midweek before temperatures rebound to seasonal levels later in the week. No watches or warnings have been issued, but officials say updated advisories may follow depending on the persistence of the high-pressure system.
