88-Year-Old Georgia Woman Completes Goal of Visiting All 50 States in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – An 88-year-old woman from Georgia has officially checked off every state in America, completing her decades-long dream of visiting all 50 states with a trip to Rhode Island this week.
A Journey That Began in 1987
Gerda McCoy began her cross-country journey with her husband George back in 1987. Together, they traveled to 49 states before George’s passing in 2015, leaving Rhode Island as the only destination left on their list.
Determined to complete the dream the couple started together, McCoy made her way to Providence this week to fulfill her bucket list.
A Warm Rhode Island Welcome
McCoy’s caregivers at her assisted living facility helped coordinate the milestone trip. The Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau donated her stay at the Marriott Courtyard, ensuring she had a memorable experience.
Her two-day adventure included dining at Hemenway’s, a boat ride with Providence River Boat Company, a guided tour of Providence with Experience Rhode Island, and even a visit to the State House.
Honoring Her Late Husband
For McCoy, the journey was more than just a travel goal. It was a tribute to her late husband and the adventures they shared across the country.
“This was something we started together, and finishing it means so much to me,” McCoy said during her trip.
A Story of Perseverance and Inspiration
Her achievement is being celebrated not only by her family but also by the local community and those who followed her story. At 88 years old, McCoy’s determination to see the journey through serves as an inspiration for others chasing lifelong dreams.
