Iowa Girl Found with 25-Year-Old Man in North Carolina Home
REIDSVILLE, NC — A 25-year-old North Carolina man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies found a missing underage girl from Iowa at a residence in Reidsville on Sunday.
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began when the Fairfield Police Department in Iowa notified deputies about a juvenile reported missing from their jurisdiction. Iowa authorities had determined that the girl had been in communication with a man who reportedly picked her up and brought her across state lines to North Carolina.
Acting on the tip, deputies checked a home in the 800 block of Willow Street in Reidsville, where they located both the missing girl and the man, identified as John Michael Johnson, age 25.
Charged with Felony Sexual Exploitation and Solicitation
Following her recovery, investigators with the sheriff’s office and the Rockingham County Department of Social Services launched a criminal investigation. Johnson was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and felony solicitation by computer.
He is being held on an $850,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 26. Authorities say the case remains under investigation and additional charges are expected.
Juvenile Now in Protective Custody
The underage girl is currently in the custody of the Rockingham County Department of Social Services. Her parents have been notified and are arranging to take her back home to Iowa.
Ongoing Investigation Across State Lines
Authorities have not disclosed how long the juvenile was missing or how she initially came into contact with Johnson. Given that the incident spans multiple states and involves digital communication, the case may involve further scrutiny from federal or interstate agencies.
