Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton and Enid Under Overnight Severe Storm Threat With Ping Pong Ball–Sized Hail Possible Into Saturday Morning
OKLAHOMA — Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to move across much of the state overnight into early Saturday morning, with the potential for hail up to ping pong ball size and heavy rainfall impacting cities from Lawton and Oklahoma City to Tulsa and Bartlesville.
Meteorologists warn that the most intense storm cells could develop after dark, increasing the risk of dangerous weather while many residents are asleep.
Heavy Rain and Strengthening Storm Cells
Radar projections show a broad line of storms pushing eastward across western and central Oklahoma. Communities including Altus, Hobart, Chickasha, and Weatherford are positioned in the path of the strongest initial development.
As the system advances, areas around Oklahoma City, Guthrie, Stillwater, and Enid could see storms intensify, with pockets of very heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.
The system is forecast to continue toward Tulsa, Muskogee, and surrounding eastern counties later tonight into early Saturday.
Hail Up to Ping Pong Ball Size Possible
Forecasters indicate that stronger storm cores may produce hail up to ping pong ball size. Such hail can cause damage to vehicles, roofs, and outdoor property.
The overnight timing adds an additional layer of concern, as visibility will be reduced and residents may have limited warning if storms rapidly intensify. While damaging winds are also possible, hail appears to be one of the primary threats with this system.
Overnight Timing Increases Risk
Storm activity is expected to strengthen overnight and persist into Saturday morning before gradually weakening as it shifts east.
Heavy rain could lead to localized ponding on roadways, especially in urban areas. Drivers are urged to use caution if traveling during the late-night or early-morning hours.
Residents in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton, Enid, Bartlesville, and surrounding communities are encouraged to monitor local alerts and ensure weather notifications are enabled before going to sleep.
