Cold Front to Bring Significant Temperature Drop Across Florida With Widespread 30s and 40s Early Friday Morning
FLORIDA — Another blast of cold air is expected to sweep across Florida late this week, bringing widespread morning temperatures in the 30s and 40s by Friday. The strongest chill will be felt in North and Central Florida, where the front’s influence will drop temperatures sharply overnight.
North Florida to See the Coldest Temperatures
Forecast maps show that Tallahassee will fall near 33 degrees, while surrounding areas such as Crestview are projected to reach 37 degrees.
Farther east, Jacksonville is expected to drop to 38 degrees, and Gainesville will see temperatures near 36 degrees, placing much of North Florida at or just above freezing levels.
Meteorologists note that while freezing temperatures are not widespread, the cold front’s strength will create significant overnight cooling across the region.
Central Florida to Dip Into the 40s
The cooler air will extend well into Central Florida, with Orlando forecast to reach 44 degrees and Tampa expected to fall to 47 degrees.
These values represent a substantial drop from recent warm days and will be noticeable for residents accustomed to milder December mornings.
Areas along the Gulf Coast, including Fort Myers, will also feel the effects, with early morning readings near 50 degrees.
South Florida Stays Milder but Still Cooler Than Normal
Even South Florida will experience unusually cool conditions compared to seasonal averages.
Palm Beach is expected to fall to 58 degrees, and Miami will drop to around 60 degrees, marking a noticeable shift even for the southernmost part of the state.
Meanwhile, Key West, typically insulated from stronger cold fronts, will remain significantly warmer with temperatures around 68 degrees.
Cold Blast Will Be Short-Lived
Forecasters expect this cold air surge to move out quickly, with temperatures rebounding by the weekend. Still, the early Friday morning period will bring the sharpest chill of the week, and residents are encouraged to prepare for colder indoor and outdoor conditions.
