FRANKFORD, W.Va. — A large multi-agency rescue operation ended successfully Saturday night after nine people were trapped deep inside a cave in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Officials confirmed that all nine individuals were brought out safely without injuries.

Rescue Operation in Frankford Cave

Emergency crews responded around 8:16 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports that a group had become trapped roughly 2,500 feet inside a cave located off Vago Road in Frankford, according to Greenbrier County 911.

Responders from multiple agencies, including the Frankford Volunteer Fire Department, Lewisburg Volunteer Fire Department, White Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and White Sulphur Springs EMS, worked together to reach the trapped individuals.

Rope Teams Lead Successful Recovery

Rope rescue teams entered the narrow cave passages to reach the group, who were located deep underground. Three separate rescue teams worked simultaneously to guide all nine people safely back to the surface.

Officials confirmed that no one required hospitalization, and no injuries were reported among the rescued group or emergency personnel. The operation concluded late Saturday night, and the scene was cleared shortly afterward.

Officials Praise Coordination and Teamwork

Local officials commended the swift response and coordination among agencies, crediting teamwork for the successful outcome. The Frankford Volunteer Fire Department shared in a post that responders “worked together seamlessly to ensure everyone returned home safely.”

Authorities have not released details on how the group became trapped but emphasized that all involved are safe and accounted for.
