Woman ‘Livid’ Over Mother-in-Law’s Late-Night Visits to Check Husband’s Blood Sugar

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman says her marriage is being pushed to the breaking point because her mother-in-law won’t stop making late-night visits to check on her adult son’s diabetes.

Mother-in-Law’s Late-Night Worries

In a widely discussed Reddit post, the woman revealed her husband has type 1 diabetes, diagnosed at age five. His mother still receives blood sugar alerts on her phone and uses them as justification for dropping by unannounced — sometimes at 1 a.m..

Although the couple has repeatedly asked her to stop, the mother-in-law reportedly ignores boundaries, often showing up at the door demanding, “Where’s my son?”

Wife Says It’s Taking a Toll

The woman explained that she can hear her husband’s alerts and knows how to respond if his blood sugar drops dangerously low. But her mother-in-law’s intrusions leave her exhausted and angry.

“She calls constantly in the middle of the night. If he doesn’t answer, then she blows my phone up,” the wife wrote. “One night when we didn’t answer, she just came on over again.”

The situation has caused tension in the marriage. “Her actions have been quite a strain,” she added, noting that her husband refuses to take a firm stand against his mother.

Online Debate Over Boundaries

Other Reddit users sided with the wife, urging her to stop running interference and to let her husband deal with his mother directly. One commenter wrote, “He’s married to you on paper, but he’s in a relationship with his mom.”

Some users argued the mother-in-law’s behavior stems from trauma after nearly losing her son as a child, but most agreed it had crossed into unhealthy overreach.

Family caregiving and health crises often create lasting bonds, but experts say respecting boundaries is key to protecting adult relationships.

Do you think the wife is right to demand her mother-in-law stop visiting unannounced, or is the mother justified in her worries? Share your thoughts with us at SaludaStandard-Sentinel.com.
