Woman Killed After Vehicle Hits Tree in Wilkes County Crash on N.C. 16

WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — A 55-year-old woman was killed Thursday morning after her vehicle struck a tree following a collision on N.C. Highway 16, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Crash Details

Troopers said the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. near the Alexander County line. An Acura and a Dodge were both traveling on the highway when the vehicles collided.

The impact caused the driver of the Acura, identified as Rose Cotrich, to lose control. The car veered off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, and struck a tree.

Victim Identified

Cotrich died from her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was not injured, authorities confirmed.

Investigation Underway

Troopers said impairment does not appear to be a factor. The investigation remains ongoing, and charges could be filed following consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office.
