Wilmington Weather Alert: Coastal Rain Totals Near 2 Inches Possible Through Wednesday

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Coastal North Carolina will see a stretch of steady rainfall through Wednesday, with some areas near Wilmington, Southport, and the Grand Strand expected to receive up to 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Heaviest Rain Along the Coast

Forecasters said the most significant rainfall will be concentrated along U.S. 17 and coastal communities, including Myrtle Beach and Georgetown, where totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible.

Inland areas such as Lumberton and Dillon will likely see lighter amounts, closer to a quarter of an inch.

Flooding Concerns in Low-Lying Areas

While widespread flooding is not expected, forecasters warn of ponding on roads, especially in Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach during peak downpours.

Urban neighborhoods and poorly drained areas may experience isolated flooding trouble spots. Residents are urged to clear storm drains and allow extra time for travel during heavy showers.

Pattern Shifts Late Week

Rain chances are expected to taper off by late Wednesday, but meteorologists caution that another round of unsettled weather could arrive by next weekend, bringing additional rain chances.

With coastal rainfall totals climbing and storm drains under stress, officials advise residents to stay weather-aware and cautious on the roads.
