Virginia Zoo Offering Free Admission to Seniors Every Wednesday Through September

NORFOLK, VA — Seniors aged 62 and older can enjoy free admission to the Virginia Zoo every Wednesday from August 20 through September 24, as part of the zoo’s Senior Wednesdays program honoring National Senior Citizens Day.

Free Entry, Games, and Weekly Activities

The Virginia Zoo announced that Senior Wednesdays will feature:

  • Free walk-up admission with valid ID
  • A Bingo challenge, where completing any five tasks in a row earns a zoo-themed prize
  • Weekly engagement events specifically geared toward older visitors

This special series is a nod to National Senior Citizens Day on August 21 and aims to promote community connection and appreciation for older adults. (WAVY)

Celebrating 125 Years of the Virginia Zoo

In addition to the free admission, the zoo is inviting seniors and their families to contribute family photos and zoo-related anecdotes that may be featured in its 125th anniversary celebration set for 2026.

Submissions can be made through the zoo’s official anniversary portal, giving longtime visitors a chance to be part of zoo history.
