Virginia Mom Gives Birth to 3rd Baby Without Knowing She Was Pregnant: ‘I’m Just Stunned’
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — A Virginia woman is sharing her story of shock and disbelief after giving birth to her third child — without knowing she was pregnant.
Becca Johnson, of Chesterfield County near Richmond, said she woke up with intense back pain on September 9 and rushed to the emergency room with her husband.
A Sudden Delivery in the ER
Johnson said doctors first suspected kidney stones or ovarian cysts. But while at the hospital, she felt the urge to use the restroom — and quickly realized something was happening.
“She [the nurse] looks over and she goes, ‘That’s a head,’” Johnson recalled. “My husband’s face just goes blank. I’m just stunned.”
Moments later, nurses helped her onto a stretcher, where she delivered a healthy baby girl in only three pushes. The baby, named Carlee Evangeline, weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
No Signs of Pregnancy
Johnson explained that she had experienced no pregnancy symptoms leading up to the surprise delivery. Her history of fertility issues, including a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), made her believe she might not have more children.
“I’m not a speechless person, [but] I went speechless,” she said of the experience.
A Message of Hope
Despite her shock, Johnson said she now sees her daughter’s birth as a miracle. She previously gave birth to her first child in 2016 after years of difficulty, and then welcomed another baby in 2024 before Carlee’s unexpected arrival.
To women struggling with fertility challenges, Johnson offered encouragement: “Never give up hope and prayer. Don’t give up.”
