Two Dead, Two Airlifted After Wrong-Way Crash on Florida Turnpike in Southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — Two people were killed and two others were critically injured following a wrong-way crash on the Florida Turnpike early Sunday morning, according to WSVN 7 News.

The deadly collision occurred in Southwest Miami-Dade, where investigators say one vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the turnpike when it collided head-on with another car.

Victims Identified by Family Members

Family members identified the two deceased victims as Gabriel Sequeira and 23-year-old Gustavo Adolfo. Both men died at the scene from injuries sustained in the violent impact.

Two additional occupants were airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Their identities have not yet been released pending family notification.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Emergency crews responded just after dawn, closing down multiple lanes of the Florida Turnpike as rescue teams worked to extricate victims and secure the crash site.

Helicopter footage from WSVN Miami showed a heavy law enforcement presence and two vehicles severely mangled from the force of the collision. Debris scattered across several lanes forced traffic delays for hours as troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol investigated.

Authorities have not yet confirmed which driver was traveling the wrong way or whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.

Community Mourning and Safety Concerns

Friends and family of the victims gathered on social media to express heartbreak and frustration over another wrong-way tragedy on South Florida’s highways.

“They were kind, hardworking, and loved by everyone who knew them,” one family member shared online. “This shouldn’t have happened.”

Local residents have called for increased highway signage and barriers to prevent wrong-way entries, a recurring issue across Florida roadways.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash and is urging witnesses to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that may help piece together what led to the fatal collision.
