Thieves Smash Through Wall to Rob Southwest Atlanta Liquor Store, Steal $28,000 in Cash and Goods

ATLANTA, GEORGIA — A daring early-morning burglary at a southwest Atlanta liquor store left behind a gaping hole in the wall, thousands of dollars in losses, and a trail of destruction. According to the Atlanta Police Department, thieves broke into Alex’s Package Liquor on Campbellton Road near Childress Drive around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Burglars Used Power Tools to Breach the Wall

Investigators say the suspects punched through a cinder block wall to gain entry into the store’s stockroom — an unusual and highly destructive method.

Inside, they stole over $28,000 in cash, along with 14 cases of liquor and more than 60 cartons of cigarettes. Police said the store’s safe had been damaged, with money scattered across the floor when officers arrived.

Security footage captured the burglars hauling boxes through the hole they had created, but the store’s owners declined to release the video publicly.

“They’re desperate. I mean, that’s plain and simple,” said Donnell Williams, a longtime customer who visited the store after the break-in. “To take that type of measure, whatever equipment they were using, they knew what they were doing.”

Scene Left in Ruins

The aftermath inside the liquor store was chaotic — shattered bottles, debris, and chunks of concrete littered the floor. Police say the burglars appeared to have targeted the business with a specific plan and equipment designed to penetrate the building’s outer wall.

According to Atlanta police, surveillance footage from nearby properties showed a silver Toyota Camry with the license plate CZB9958 arriving at the store around 5:20 a.m. Two men exited the vehicle — one acting as a lookout while the other used a tool to break through the wall.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have not released the identities of the suspects and continue to review video evidence in hopes of identifying those involved.

“Preliminary investigation indicates a silver Toyota Camry arrived at the location and that one suspect appeared to be striking and cutting into the wall with a device while the other kept watch,” the department said in a statement.

It remains unclear exactly what kind of tool was used to breach the cinder block wall, as that portion of the footage was obscured.

Residents and nearby business owners expressed concern following the break-in, noting that burglaries in the area have become increasingly bold and destructive.

Atlanta police are urging anyone with information about the suspects or vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers.
