Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina and North Carolina See Clear Skies Tonight for Prime Stargazing and Possible Fireball Sightings
UNITED STATES — A wide stretch of the country is set to experience favorable stargazing conditions tonight, with clear skies and strong atmospheric transparency creating ideal viewing opportunities from late evening through early morning.
Weather data indicates that much of the central and eastern United States will see minimal cloud cover, allowing for unobstructed views of the night sky between 9 PM and 5 AM ET.
Large Portion of Country Sees Clear to Excellent Viewing Conditions
Forecast maps show a broad zone of clear to excellent sky conditions stretching from parts of the Southern Plains through the Midwest and into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
States including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and North Carolina are expected to experience some of the best visibility, with large areas under “clear” to “excellent” viewing categories.
While the western U.S. and northern regions may see more hazy or fair conditions, they can still offer occasional breaks for stargazing depending on local cloud cover.
Ideal Conditions Could Lead to Fireball Sightings
With skies expected to remain clear and atmospheric transparency high, conditions are ideal for spotting meteors, including brighter fireballs that occasionally streak across the sky.
Clear air allows more light from celestial objects to reach the ground, improving visibility not only for stars and planets but also for transient events like meteors. Observers in darker, rural areas away from city lights will have the best chance of seeing these phenomena.
Moonlight May Slightly Impact Visibility
Despite the generally favorable conditions, the presence of a nearly full moon—around 80 percent illumination—could slightly reduce visibility for dimmer stars and faint meteors.

Western Regions See More Limited Visibility
Parts of the western United States may experience more mixed conditions, with areas of haze or cloud cover reducing visibility compared to the central and eastern regions. Even so, some locations could still experience brief periods of clearer skies, particularly in higher elevations or areas with lower moisture content.
