Texas Man Charged with Murder After Allegedly Killing Two Men at Michigan Auto Dealership During Dispute
SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Texas man has been charged with multiple felony counts, including first-degree murder, after allegedly shooting and killing two men during a dispute at a Michigan auto dealership on November 7, authorities announced Monday.
According to Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, 46-year-old Terrance Jermaine Sandles, of Houston, Texas, was arraigned in 41A District Court in Shelby Township on charges stemming from a deadly shooting inside Star Auto Sales, located on Ryan Road.
Investigators said Sandles entered the dealership’s office and opened fire, killing Marvan Batoo, 40, of Shelby Township, and Ghaith Baban, 48, of Clinton Township.
Dispute Over Vehicle Purchase Led to Shooting
Police believe the fatal incident began as a dispute over a vehicle purchase between Sandles and the dealership. Witnesses told investigators that Sandles had been in contact with the business regarding a car deal before the confrontation turned violent.
Authorities said an employee discovered the victims shortly after the shooting and contacted police. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
“This was a senseless act of violence that left two innocent men dead,” Prosecutor Lucido said. “My office will seek justice on behalf of the victims and their grieving families.”
Arrest Made at Michigan Hotel
Detectives traced the suspect to a vehicle linked to the dealership dispute, which led them to a hotel in Romulus, roughly 40 miles away. Officers arrested Sandles at the location without incident and recovered evidence believed to be connected to the murders.
Police also said they found cocaine in Sandles’ possession during the arrest.
Sandles faces the following charges:
- Two counts of First-Degree Premeditated Murder (life without parole)
- Two counts of Armed Robbery (life or any term of years)
- Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Enhancement, which could increase sentencing if convicted.
He is currently being held without bond.
Community and Authorities React
Prosecutor Lucido described the case as “horrifying,” emphasizing that his office is “fully committed to seeking the maximum penalty allowed under Michigan law.”
The Shelby Township Police Department also thanked multiple agencies and witnesses for their assistance in quickly tracking down the suspect.
“This was an incredibly tragic event for the victims’ families and for our entire community,” Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide said. “Our detectives worked tirelessly to ensure this violent offender was taken off the streets.”
The victims, remembered by family and friends as hardworking and kind-hearted men, had each been part of the local business community for years.
Ongoing Investigation
Sandles is scheduled to appear in court again later this month for a probable cause hearing. Prosecutors have not ruled out additional charges as the investigation continues.
Anyone with further information related to the case is asked to contact the Shelby Township Police Department.
