Teens Attack Homeless Man During Robbery in Jacksonville, Leaving Victim Dead

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police in Jacksonville have arrested three teens, ages 13, 16, and 19, accused of beating and robbing a homeless man to death earlier this month. Authorities identified the victim as Roger Borkum, who was found dead following a violent assault in the city’s northwest area.

Incident Details and Arrests

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, investigators linked the suspects — Justin Curry (13), Robert Pope (16), and Marcavion Lacey (19) — to the attack through witness statements and surveillance footage. Police said the group allegedly approached Borkum late at night, robbed him, and began beating him with blunt objects.

The assault left Borkum critically injured, and he later succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital. Detectives say the attack appeared to be motivated by robbery, not personal conflict.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

All three suspects have been taken into custody. Lacey, 19, is being charged as an adult, while the two younger teens are expected to face charges in juvenile court, though prosecutors have not ruled out transferring their cases.

Police have not confirmed whether the suspects had prior criminal records, but investigators called the incident “one of the most disturbing acts of violence seen this year involving juveniles.”

Community Outrage and Justice Concerns

The killing has sparked outrage among residents and city leaders, with calls for tougher penalties on juvenile offenders involved in violent crimes.

One community advocate described the case as “heartbreaking and senseless,” urging local leaders to address youth violence in Jacksonville.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
