Teen Killed in Head-On Crash in Alexander County
ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A 17-year-old from Hiddenite was killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision along Sharpe Mill Road in Alexander County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers identified the victim as Jacob Elijah Huffman, who was driving a 1991 Chevrolet S-10. Investigators said Huffman’s truck crossed the center line near Johnson Farm Road, close to the Love Valley community, colliding with an oncoming 2000 Ford Ranger.
Details of the Crash
Authorities reported the crash happened just before 11 a.m. Huffman was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers also noted he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation Findings
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said its preliminary investigation found speed and impairment were not factors in the crash. No charges are expected to be filed in connection with the incident.
The roadway was shut down for about two hours as troopers cleared the scene and continued their investigation.
Community Impact
The tragedy has shaken the Hiddenite and Love Valley communities, where neighbors and friends are mourning the loss of a young life cut short.
Officials continue to urge drivers, particularly teens, to always wear seatbelts, emphasizing that such precautions can often mean the difference between life and death in serious crashes.
