Thunderstorms Alert Issued

St. Louis Weather Alert: Thunderstorms Expected Saturday as Cold Front Moves Through Missouri

ST. LOUIS, MO. — The National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis has issued a weather alert for the weekend, warning residents to prepare for Saturday thunderstorms followed by a sharp cooldown and clear skies by Sunday.

Forecasters say the city’s streak of warm, sunny fall weather will end as a cold front moves across Missouri and Illinois early Saturday, bringing a surge of moisture and an 80% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms between late morning and evening.

Warm Start Before Storms Arrive Saturday

Thursday and Friday will remain unseasonably warm, with highs near 83°F, roughly 10–12 degrees above average for mid-October. Light southeast winds and clear skies will make both days ideal for travel, fall festivals, and outdoor events across the I-70 and I-64 corridors.

“This will be the last stretch of warm, quiet weather before a front pushes through and triggers a few storms,” NWS meteorologists said.

By early Saturday, however, conditions will shift quickly as clouds increase and storms develop along the approaching front. Localized downpours and lightning could impact drivers along I-55, U.S. 40, and near the St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Cooler, Clear Skies Return Sunday

Once the system passes, forecasters expect a dramatic drop in temperatures, with highs in the upper 60s Sunday and overnight lows dipping into the mid-40s.

The transition will bring dry, crisp air and clear skies, creating perfect conditions for pumpkin picking, hiking, and Halloween decorating.

By early next week, mild and sunny weather will return, with daytime highs rebounding to the mid-70s under mostly clear skies.

Residents Urged To Plan Around Saturday Storms

The NWS is advising residents to secure outdoor decorations, tents, and inflatables ahead of the storms, as gusty winds and brief downpours could cause disruptions during the day Saturday.

Local events may experience delays or brief cancellations, particularly outdoor gatherings and fall festivals.
